BRING IT ALL
TOGETHER
In a world of increasing complexity, doing things simpler, quicker and to a higher standard cuts through to premium.

We're an established landscaping, design and construction business with deep roots in the Northern Virginia area.

We believe that inspired design, meticulous planning and robust construction are always better when delivered together.

We also believe that the company we keep is what matters most. Friends, family, colleagues, stakeholders and clients inspire what we do, and how we do it.

We invite you to join us in finding outdoor living solutions that bring everything together.

OUR PEOPLE

People are the foundation of our business. That begins with our own. And, literally, like it's no one else's business they put everything into place.

Josh Desilets
OWNER
Josh started xScape in 2004 as a family deck-building business. Twenty-one years later, the work looks different, but the reason behind it hasn't changed. What drives Josh is a simple realization: the team isn't building structures. They're changing how families live in their homes. The deck becomes the place where Saturday mornings happen. The patio becomes where friends stay longer than they planned. That's not construction. That's contentment. Josh will tell you that doing the right thing for clients has always been the standard — even when it's the harder path. A big part of that is the time invested before a single board is cut. The pre-construction planning, the design coordination, the preparation that means no surprises on-site. That's where the trust gets built. The reaction he's working toward? A client standing in their finished space saying, "This is beyond what we expected — call xScape." And ten years later, still telling their neighbors the same thing.
Fred
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
For Fred, the moment that matters isn't the final walkthrough. It's when the whole family is smiling — not just the ones who signed the contract. Fred will build whatever the design team draws up. New concept, complex build, something never attempted before — doesn't matter. His focus stays the same: client safety, code compliance, and never cutting a corner to make his day easier. There are no shortcuts on a Fred project. What keeps him at xScape is the team. Everyone brings something different. Different skills, different experience, different angles on the same problem. That's what makes the work feel less like a job and more like something worth showing up for every day. Ten years from now, Fred wants clients to remember more than the finished space. He wants them to remember how the whole thing felt — from the first design meeting through the last nail — and still be telling their neighbors about it.
Kim
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Kim joined xScape when it was still a small operation. He could see where it was going before most people could. Josh was dialed in, highly professional, with a clear vision — and Kim knew he wanted to be part of that journey. Nearly 15 years later, he's still here. What sets Kim apart is how he sees a space. Not just the structures — the softscape, the focal points, the places where people will naturally gather and talk. The corner where someone will pull up a chair. The view that makes you pause. He thinks past the build and into the life that happens after. Kim doesn't do "good enough." He builds trust the same way he builds projects — through clear communication, a laid-back confidence, and work that speaks for itself. The reaction he's after? A client standing in their finished space saying, "Can you believe the transformation? I can't even remember what it was like before."
Tim
CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER
Tim is the first voice most clients hear and the last one to check in after the build is done. His job is simple: listen carefully, understand what you need, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks between the first conversation and the final walkthrough. One moment stays with him. A warranty visit — routine stuff. The client mentioned the build process was smooth. But then they said something Tim didn't expect. Their new screened porch had become the room where the family eats dinner, plays games, watches TV together. Not the living room. The porch. That space had quietly become the center of their home. That's when it clicked. The team isn't handing over a structure. They're handing over the place where life actually happens. Tim's goal is that clients walk into their finished space and say, "This is so much more than I thought it would be." And that the process of getting there felt just as good as the result.
Mike
PRE-CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
The moment it clicked for Mike was walking on-site at Nissan Pavilion. xScape had reconstructed the entire VIP area of the concert venue — bar, deck platforms, pergolas, patios, landscaping. Not a subcontractor handoff. Not a sales operation with someone else's crews. A single team, start to finish, with their own people, trucks, and equipment. That was the company he wanted to be part of. Mike will tell you he overthinks things. He's right — and it's one of the best things about him. He catches what others miss before the first footing goes in. Every potential issue surfaced early is one that never becomes a problem on-site. Ten years from now, he hopes clients look back and say the work still holds up — that Mike lined everything up so well, the project outlasted everything else around it. When he's not planning your build, he's at home recharging on his own projects. Ready for another week of making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Josh
SALES MANAGER
The videos are what get him. A client sends a clip of their kids running across the patio, friends gathered around the fire feature, someone reading alone on a porch they didn't have six months ago. That's the work — not the drawings, not the renderings. The life that happens after. Josh is a problem solver at his core. Analytical. The kind of designer who dissects a property down to the inch and finds the solution that everyone else walked past. Every slope, every sight line, every awkward corner is a puzzle, and Josh doesn't move on until it's solved. His approach to design starts with listening. The goal isn't to impress clients with what he can draw — it's for them to stand in the finished space and feel like someone actually heard what they wanted. That their vision wasn't just acknowledged. It was understood. Outside of work, Josh designs spaces for his own home — projects he chips away at slowly. Even designers get designer's block when it's their own backyard. Ten years from now, he wants clients to look around and appreciate two things: the thoughtfulness of the design and the fact that it still looks just as good as the day it was finished.
Tyler
FIELD MANAGER
Tyler assists with day-to-day operations of hardscape projects, providing oversight and support to ensure consistent results. He addresses any questions or concerns during construction.
Brandon
SENIOR DESIGNER
The moment that stays with Brandon wasn't a thank you or a handshake. It was silence. A client standing in their finished space, not saying anything — not evaluating, just imagining. Seeing the Thanksgiving they'd host there. The prom photos. The son home from college, sitting by the fire pit, talking about life. That's when Brandon understood what he was actually designing. Brandon sees a space before it exists — not just the structure, but how someone moves through it on a fall evening when the heaters are on and the lights are low. He designs with engineering discipline and emotional intention. Every project should feel inevitable, like it was always supposed to be there. He's relentless about proportion. If something feels undersized, off-scale, or breaks a sight line, it gets fixed. Not debated. Fixed. Good design isn't decoration — it's when nothing feels wrong and you can't explain why everything feels right. Ten years from now, Brandon wants clients to say the whole experience felt professional, thoughtful, and elevated — and that their idea was taken somewhere they never could have imagined on their own.
John
SENIOR DESIGNER
The moment that changed how John sees the work wasn't on a blueprint. It was standing with a client in their finished backyard, watching them take it in. Not polite appreciation — genuine joy. The kind that tells you the space didn't just meet expectations. It exceeded them. John designs by listening first. He connects with clients, understands how they want to live in a space, and builds that understanding into every decision. The goal isn't just a beautiful result — it's a client who feels confident they made the right call from day one. Like the rest of the design team, John won't let proportion slide. A column that looks off-scale, a railing that interrupts the view, a structure that feels too small for the space — it gets corrected. People may not know the technical reason something feels wrong, but they always sense it. John makes sure there's nothing to sense. What keeps him at xScape is the team. It feels like a family — same goals, same standards, everyone pulling in the same direction. Ten years from now, John wants clients to look at their space and feel like it still looks brand new. And that it remains one of the best decisions they ever made for their home.
